Hotel Eden

Extensively refurbished in1994, Eden is unashamedly status-conscious, flaunting its designer labels and its famous guests – among them have been actors Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. Hotel Empire Palace

Smart new executive hotel, opened in September 1999 in a 19th-century palace which was built as the Roman residence of the aristocratic Venetian Mocenigo family. The contemporary decoration combines Venetian elements with an astral theme, such as a night sky painted on the lobby ceiling. Via Aureliana 39, 00187 Roma.

Hotel Villa del Parco

Hotel D’Inghilterra

This used to be the guest accommodation for the Torlonia palace and a regal air survives, with antique mirrors and classically decorated rooms. Hotel Sole al Pantheon

In an unbeatable location opposite the Pantheon, this ancient building has been a hotel since 1467. It is distinctively and imaginatively decorated, with white leather seating and tiled floors lending a glamorous tone to the public areas. The bedrooms are all different. Hotel Majestic

A beautiful wrought iron ‘cage’ lift and many mirrors and fittings survive from the 1880s when this classic, old-world hotel was built.
