Lazareto Despite its rustic, traditional exterior the Lazareto is a modern hotel, set in grassy gardens. A delightful owner-managed hotel in traditional buildings next to the 11th-century Venetian fortress, in the heart of the port. Don’t worry, it doesn’t feel like a chain hotel and is easily the best in Olympia. It is set just outside both the modern town and the ancient ruins, on a hillside above farmland. This is one of the prettiest small hotels in all Greece, with polished wood floors, elaborately painted ceilings and dadoes, and tall windows overlooking the charming harbour. Two steps from the sea, in a peaceful location a few minutes from the Gialós harbour area, this pretty 19th-century sea captain’s mansion is now a well-run A-Class hotel.
